Hi, I love this site! Two of my best friends are going to join the RCMP and I have several relatives (distant ones) who are members already. It's really cool to learn about the history of the RCMP and what they have done. Bye, Terry

I am looking for information on my Great Uncle Joseph Browning who was a member of the NWMP at the turn of the century. Any assistance would be appreciated - even if it is suggestions of other places I can look. Thanks

RE: Historical info requests

As you review our Guestbook you will notice several requests for information about past members and questions pertaining to the history of the RCMP. In the past, we've tried to address those requests as best we could with varying degrees of success. Unfortunately, there was no formal mechanism available to help answer these questions.

That has now changed.

The RCMP Historian's office has kindly agreed to help with this type of request. With cooperation between the Historian's office and Museum staff we hope to answer these requests for you. If you would like more information about a particular historical topic, including information about past members of the Force, please submit your question using our Historical Information Request form at http://mpmuseum.sasktelwebhosting.com/feedback/info-request.html.

We hope this service will be a benefit to you but please note that this office will not provide information about active members of the RCMP. Nor will they handle requests for confidential information via this site.

Further information about the RCMP may be found on the main RCMP website at http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

Webmaster response
Hi John,

I've e-mailed a response directly to you regarding your order but I thought it would be helpful to give other visitors some info about how the Scarlet and Gold on-line store works. As you know, the store lets you select from a wide variety of RCMP-related items such as books, clothing, gifts, toys and so on. The selection is great and so are the prices!! The shopping cart system allows you to browse through the store and select items that you would like to purchase and we use SSL security to ensure safe credit card transactions.

As each transaction is completed, the store automatically sends out a confirmation via e-mail. If you don't get this confirmation within a day or two (depending on the reliability of your ISP), then the transaction did not finish properly and the order probably was not placed. Our system has shown itself to be very reliable but things don't always work exactly as they should. If this ever happens, leave a message in the GuestBook or send an e-mail to the webmaster (me) and we'll address the situation right away.

Thanks for letting us know about the problem.

Hello again, I placed an order a few days ago for some articles I wish to send to some send to some police personnel we met in Britain recently. Just want to be sure our order actually went through, because there didn't seem to be a verification. (My credit card was used for payment.) I did e-mail Friends of the Museum, of which I am a supporter, being retired from the RCMP, but maybe that was not the place to send my query. Please let me know if order has not been received and I will place same again. Yours, J. Dixon

Was nice to "discover" this site on the Web! I had the opportunity to visit your museum during July 1997 while I visited my brother who is a medical physician there in Saskatchewan. It was great to wander through the museum and much to our surprise there was also one corner that featured the Anglo Boer War in South Africa a century ago (1899-1902), in which some Mounties also took part (unfortunately on the enemy-side!) It was also more interesting for me due to the fact that I am also a law enforcer! I am a superintendent in the S A Police Service, attached to the Legal Department and am a policeman for almost 14 years! My host when visiting your museum was Sergeant John Hiebert, commander at the Watrous Detachment (the town where my brother practised at that stage).I wander if John is still attached to the Watrous Detachment, and if so, I would appreciate your help in trying to contact him again, just to say hi. I also have this dream to become a "Mountie" one day and are planning to emmigrate to Canada soon. Perhaps you could give me more information as to what your recruitment-requirements are. Thanks for your great site. So long! Harry le Roux

My great grandfather Ernst Snell was a mountie many years ago and from what we can tell it was before the turn of the century. He retired from the regiment to become a police officer in a community west of Winnipeg. The name of the town escapes me at present. His service revolver was on display at the museum when my wife and I went west about 15 years ago. ( Of interest his second wife 40 years his junior was still alive at the time) We have a hand painted portrait of him wearing the pill box style hat but we are not certain if that was artictic impression or if it was a true representation. We have heard of 2 stories related to his service which are now part of family lore. We are interested in knowing if we can find out more about his service career. When and where did he serve etc. How would one go about looking for this information? Many thanks Peter Graham

I really enjoyed your website. It had a lot of information about the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. It helped me to prepare my goal as a RCMP officer. I am doing a lot of things that will enhance my goal as becoming an officer. I am looking forward to attending the RCMP depot in Regina. My other goal in life is to come out with an university degree in Crimiology and then apply to the RCMP. Right now I am a second year university student. Yours Truly, Karen Manuel
