I thoroughly enjoyed visiting your site and reading the information. I unfortunately did not get a chance to read all of it. I was wondering if you could help me with something. My Father Donald William McKay has always told us that there is a bust of his grandfather or something along those lines, in the Museum. My father says that he (his grandfather)helped in the capture of Louis Riel. I don't dought my father, but he is very ill and does not have long to live and we are compiling as much information as possible about my Father's family history. Any information you could give us would be greatly appreciated. Every year when we were young, our parents would take us from BC to SK to see the RCMP museum and training barracks. From what I remember he was known by staff at the Museum at that time. I thank you in advance, if you could e-mail me with anything photos, articles, etc. you might have on our family name we would really appreciate it. Sincerely, Wanda Gurney

I am wondering how I might track down information on my great uncle, David Smythe, who was a Northwest Mounted Policeman at the turn of the century. Family history cites him as an officer who conducted the stagecoach from Dawson to Whitehorse at that time. I expect he would have been in his early 20's about 1901. I have a bracelet of Yukon gold that he gave to my grandmother for her 16th birthday at about that time. The family grew up in southern Ontario - perhaps St. Mary's or in the general area. Thank you for any "steer" you can provide. My history-teaching daughter is most intrigued by this story. -- Jacquelyn Lumsden

Is anybody from the RCMP museum interested in a picture of a former member of the NWMP ? I am a member with the Saskatoon Police Service. A couple of weeks ago an elderly lady approached me and said she had an old picture of a long dead relative in his NWMP uniform. She would like to give it to "somebody" and I believe, that your museum would be the appropriate place. Please let me know and I will contact her again and arrange for the picture to be delivered. Hello, I was once a summer student at the Museum. Just wondering who is still around. I know Malcom retired a few years back, but are Bill and Alice still there?

Hi Mike,

Have you checked the historical information on the museum page? If not, you can view it by clicking here or by clicking on the "Enter the Museum" graphic at the top of any page on the site.

I don't know if this will be enough but there is some interesting information and a few links to other sources of RCMP historical information.

If you have any particular topics in mind, let us know and we'll try to cover them soon.

Joel,

For a little more information on the Mad Trapper, Albert Johnson, check out the RCMP Gazette website.

I don't know if this will be enough but there is some interesting information.

BTW, we'll be adding to our own site soon and this will likely be one of the topics we cover.

Hi my name is Jenny and I attend St. Therese's Elementary school and I have to do a report on the history of the RCMP and I can't find any history information at all. I liked the history of the museum, however I think you should mention a little bit about the history of the RCMP. Thank you!!

Hello, I'm a student at spectrum alternitive school in Toronto. I'm doing a project on how the mounties uniform has changed and why. I need pictures from the begining of the North-west mounted police to now 1999 I also need info on why they changed the uniforms. It would be great if I also had how the extras on the uniform has changed, like when they first had a gun and when they got ride of their whips. Last I need a map of canada of where mountie posts used to be and where they are now (according to a legend). If you could send me all of some of these items it would be great. If you could respond to my letter by E-mail that would be great. Even if you can't send me any of the items could you please respond. I would also like you to give me you phone number so we could talk. Hope to hear from you soon, bye.
